After uploading the "a" version of this image I realized the sky was way overdone. I

think this looks much more natural. Do you agree? Again, musician playing his guitar

out on the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah. Your thoughts and comments requested and

always sincerely appreciated.

A most unusual and very different image. What a strange place to be playing a guitar. Love the composition and subject, nice colours and light, very well presented. Best regards Ken.

Hi David, I see what you mean about the sky but it's not as noticeable as you think. But what a great scene, I don't know why but a TDK audio tape commercial pops into my head, I guess the austere surroundings and a musician conjure up old memories. Good work.

This is a cool setting - was he any good? The acoustics would be pretty open, but if it was totally calm it would be very interesting. I might have shot another one more to the right and lower to include and emphasize his shadow, then convert to B&W could be interesting.

Chris; Thank you. I'm glad you like it.

Ken; This one was like shooting in the snow. The salt is absolutely and brilliantly white. If I rendered it here as it appears in place, it would be almost all blown-out. It is always a balancing act. Thank you for your interest and kind words.

Holger; Thanks for reminding me of just how old I really am;-) I hadn't made the connection with the old TDK ads until you brought it up. Thank you for your interest and encouraging words.

Jim; Here is another version in which I captured the full shadow. Do you think it is better? Your time, interest, and comments are sincerely appreciated.

Believe it or not, I must have failed to finalize the comments I drafted shortly after you posted this image.  Since I have zero recollection of their content, I'll start from scratch.

In my opinion, this image is exposed as perfectly as possible, since it captures the strange geometrical detail of the salt flats as well as that of the mountains, sky, and the guitarist.  Although I like the alternative which includes the full shadow, I don't think that's overly material to the success of either version.

My best,

michael

Especially the stool combined with the salt flats and the double guitar! Well done indeed!

The picture in your comment is stronger and even more impressive!

Best regards, David!

Pierre; I am very gratified that you like it. Over time I am liking the alternate version even more. I'll play with it a bit and see what comes. I think I'll try to match the white salt to the white snow on the mountain in the background. That would be more true to my memory of the scene. Thanks again.

What a fantastic photo! :o)  Can't fault anything.  Great composition and contrast between the foreground and back.  But it is the way you have captured the guitarist that makes this shot so nice and unique :o)  Well done.

Cheers, Ann.
