Jack McRitchie 150 Posted March 19, 2016 Quite an interesting concoction, Michael. Strange how certain of your manipulations seem to create picture that have wide appeal and others pass by with little or no comment. For some reason this one reminds me of tribal or theatrical masks. Link to comment
JohnWebster 2 Posted March 22, 2016 I believe this is the image I rated without comment---the one you asked for insight into the rating I gave it. Ratings can be influenced by time-of-day, full vs empty stomach, and the number and content of images I looked at before I got to this one. Initially, I rated it a 4 (I could rate this a 5 after a second look)as I thought the impact was average, the composition a bit tight on the left, and while the color contrast is good I did not connect with the shapes. The straight edges on two of the objects seemed to me to not belong with the sweeping curves--a personal choice of contrast vs continuity. The elements appear flat and I would like to see some dimension and 3-D treatment. Remove one of the shapes, put the remaining shapes on a larger canvas, and create some highlights and shading and lead-in lines. This is okay, as is, but I see it as the starting point for more adventure. Good luck. I hope this is helpful. Link to comment
