Gary, excellent composition, DoF (for your lens), and colors. There are those on PNet who will criticize your choice of an imperfect subject. As a learning exercise, this is very good. On your next effort, see if you can further obscure the background by manipulating the DoF. Perhaps even darken the background by adding light only on your subject. Keep working this approach. You are definitely getting the idea, and creating your own style and approach. This is good.

I too am struck by the strong colours and the shallow Depth of Field and how both work together, with the composition, to make a good image.
