Just got home from a long meeting, found my wife and one of the

dogs looking up into a tree. There he was! Got the D 750 with first

model 80-400 VR, various distances and exposures, mostly at 400.

This a modest crop.

Not a particularly good bird photographer, comments / critique

welcome!

Sandy, good job catching this one. My last owl I was stuck with my 35mm/1.8 prime, and there was no crop that would work. I love the way the twigs (in focus, no less!) frame the owl's face within the frame of the image. As I have told Alf, it's amazing what one can do if he is prepared. Nicely done.

David, thanks!  As mentioned in another post, I was sort of prepared, as I had fumble set the camera to bracket.  We have three kinds of owl, and this is only the second time I've had a chance to photograph one. He was among the twigs, the framing was a way to turn it to advantage.
