Beyond the prima facie of an interesting old building with great lines and shadows, I find myself enlarging and studying the details, "not responsible for fire & theft", "no checks cashed", and open desk drawer from a hasty departure (or scavenger), your self portrait shadow, and the note from the perpetual idiot that can only spell two words ;-).  Well done... Mike

It's an interesting image that as Mike pointed out has much to offer when viewed large. Remnants of a time past. The shadow lines are great David.

Best, Holger

Pierre, Mike, & Holger, thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I, too, was intrigued by the plethora of detail in this scene, hence the image. I was first drawn by the patterns of light and shadow, but then discovered the details as well.

A masterful image, for reasons that I don't need to mimic.  I must add two further observations, though.  Just above the "Not Responsible  . . . " sign, there is another instruction that the management of this place gave to customers, i.e., "Look."  Was management simply tuned in to minimizing liability?  Or, perhaps, were they clairvoyant? If so, if you had any doubt about whether to shoot this photograph, the sign encouraged you to proceed.  So much the better for the rest of us.

My other observation has to do with the image's appearance.  Your shooting this structure if its roof were intact would have an entirely different set of elements.  Its openness also allowed me to spot several unconnected beams along the roof line.  Clearly this is an additional point of interest for the viewer, in general.

thank you for sharing!

I think the symbolic of the ruin of a modern time, connected to cars, is important.

Michael; Thank you for your detailed evaluation. I'm gratified that you find this scene as interesting as did I.

Maria; Your kind words of appreciation and encouragement mean a lot to me. This ruin is symbolic of the whole mystique of Route 66, the automobile, and their combined place in the history of my country.

Hi David, being involved in the Construction industry for a number of years - I was drawn to this image - a modern ruin. I think the use of light and shadows make for a very atmospheric image and I can image this as a location from one of Stephen Kings horror novels along Route 66. Very well seen and captured. Thanks for your contributions to P.N. It's a great community to learn and get inspiration from. Best wishes. Sarah.

Sarah; me too, in regards construction. I think that's why I find buildings like this so fascinating as photographic subjects. I hadn't thought of the Stephen King connection. Now my perception is changed. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I am having a blast with everybody on PNet.
