Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 3, 2016 Interesting experiment. At first I thought there was just one colored picture but when I viewed it larger I noticed there were two. The whole draped effect of the room makes it seem as if flood waters are rushing through the room. I'm not sure if the brighter of the two pictures might actually detract from the effect of the picture since it immediately begs for your attention. I would possibly have left some traces color in the rest of the picture or toned down the red of the picture a bit. The second picture is more subtle and to my mind more effectively integrates with the room interior. Link to comment

Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 5, 2016 I think I prefer the original version, perhaps with the painting toned down a bit and maybe just the barest hint of color in the sheeted room. The second version seems murkier and loses its lightness. The tones in your first picture are brighter, softer; it was really only the red picture on the right that (for me) unbalanced the composition and added a note of artifice. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,611 Posted February 6, 2016 Much appreciated, Jack. I suspected when I started reworking the original that monochrome might require changes in tonality. Clearly the revision has a different feel and perhaps another message. Link to comment
