Some of this ice is local ,but some is floated in with the tide;those pieces sitting atop the rock berm were shoved there during the storm.As the temperatures drop,the ice takes pretty quick and thickens as the tide pushes new water on top as the greenish spot on the left.The smelt fishermen keep a close watch on the thickness so they can move their shacks to their favorite spots.Commercial fishing(by net) is carried out in deeper waters,in the white area beyond the shacks....a little more tricky/dangerous as the tides acts more on the ice cap in the channel area.
