Jack McRitchie 150 Posted January 19, 2016 The contrast between the towering shadow and the small scraggly tree is wonderful. A distinctive image. Link to comment
Leslie Reid 5,214 Posted September 13, 2016 An absolutely stunning photograph. I love the way you handled the crest of the dune, turning it into the bold vertical line. And the way the tree shadow unites the light world of the tree with the darkness behind the dune is sheer poetry. I love the simplicity of the image, and I love the tremendous complexity that lies under that simplicity--I'm finding that I'm spending a lot of time exploring each part of the image, and I'm discovering new things to admire everywhere I look. The boldness with which you've handled the strong contrasts and your arrangement of the dune crest create a sense of overwhelming tension between the tiny tree and the immense dune. Beautiful. M_Lipakis 3 Posted September 13, 2016 Feels like the bow of a gigantic sandy ship on a furious onslaught against earth environment. EXCELLENT WORK !!! Link to comment
JeffBryce 0 Posted September 13, 2016 Very unusual and well-thought composition. I'm imagining it without the thin sand/gravel forefront; I see that it matches the tree tones, but it doesn't quite work with the rest. Link to comment
BelaMolnar 2 Posted September 14, 2016 The foreground you see here Jef, . . . is the dry vegetation on the valley floor, obviously do not have the same color or tone as the sandune. This shot was done with Tamron 500mm lens and the attached image is with a wide angle lens as I walked toward the bottom of this sandune.-BLM. Guest Guest Posted September 14, 2016 There's a peacefulness here and I get the sense of a puzzle being put together. The tree and shadow are wonderful and introduce a sense of scale that is very effective. The color tones are warm and work well. I agree about the foreground not quite working to the photo's advantage. The wind's marks on the right edge of the dune are beautifully caught and provide that degree of subtlety which seems to put the finishing touch on the photo. Link to comment
