Cades Cove on ground off Hyatt Lane

Artist: Brian P. Bower;
ImageDescription: White tailed deer are found almost everywhere, but I travel to Cades Cove in The Great Smoky Mountains for the majority of my deer photos. Inside the National Park there is no hunting and the deer have become habituated to having people close by. With excellent food sources, these deer grow large with huge antlers. Add their tolarance to people, this all makes for some very photogenic images. It's important to keep your distance, thats why you should use a Telephoto lens to fill your frame. Too many people get too close with a smaller lens and end up chasing off the deer. I try to anticipate the deer's direction and get ahead of it and sit down. As you can see this deer has no fear of me and made his approach to within 10 feet while I was sitting on the ground. The following photograph is the lip curl he performed for me at 10 feet, so close I couldn't get all of his antlers in the frame.;
