After walking in the rain for a while I came across a very wet Pony with a curly coat,

and whilst the poor animal looked rather forlorn and sad, it's coat looked fascinating. A

bit different than my usual postings......Your thoughts and Comments are always

appreciated! Thank You.

Super gorgeous hair.  I like it enlarged a lot.  I hope you at least gave this poor pony an apple to eat.  Happy New Year Alf!

Hi Alf, A unique and unusual abstract and wonderfully presented. Viewed larger you can really see what the flowing down pattern details look like and that makes for quite an interesting shot. A happy New Year to you and yours my friend.

Best Always, Holger

A horse?  I thought you'd caught a candid of Dolly Parton ;-).   The ever changing, but similar, patterns invite examination but it's the sharp detail, lines and tones that are superb.  Good eye and have a Happy New Year... Mike

Sadly, I didn't have an apple to give the poor guy, but I did give him a reassuring pat on the nose, although I'm sure that was no consolation to him.

Thank you so much for your visit and kind words.

My Sincere Best Wishes for 2016.

Some things just seem to jump out and beg to be photo, and although abstracts don't usually do this for me, on this occasion it did : - )

Sincere Thanks for your thoughtful feedback my friend.

Best Wishes for  2016 Happy New Year!

I shot this with the aperture wide open at F / 2.8 mostly because I wanted a fast shutter speed as I was hand holding the camera, it seemed to capture a lot of fine detail.

Sincere Thanks and Best Wishes for 2016.

Many Thanks .....I think the f/ 2.8 aperture worked well here.

I kind of took a leaf out of your book here and found the image by looking closer and separating it from everything else. You lead by example!

Indeed, Alf - not your usual bill of fare.  In my humble opinion, your choice of monochrome definitely was the right one.  I'm not sure that a color image would be as dramatic in showcasing all of the interrelationships and nuances in the pony's hair.  The tack sharp detail goes a long way as well.  It's as if there's a frenetic dance of curlyques.

My best always,

michael

Happy New Year to you too my friend!

Thank you so much for your interest and thoughtful feedback.  The horses natural  colour was a kind of silver grey so the transition to B & W didn't make a huge difference. But the wide open aperture (which I used to obtain a fast shutter speed) seems to have captured a lot of detail.

The horse itself is a hardy variety, used to the outdoors, and much like the breeds of Icelandic Ponies I have seen.  but it is the first time I have noticed the long hair curling in this way when wet.

Thanks again Michael.

This is great find and an excellent abstract, Alf! Perfect as it is, but if I can offer a suggestion, you could crop slightly from the bottom to remove out-of-focus areas. I understand that this is a handheld shot and it was not possible to go after more DOF. Best wishes. Peter

Yes, I see what you mean. It is a good suggestion with merit and I take it on board. I think the out of focus area is due to the F/ 2.8 aperture which I used  to increase the shutter speed as it was taken hand held.  But yes, a crop  at the bottom would definitely improve the overall image.

Sincere Thanks for your positive feedback and suggestions.

Best Regards

With the composition, tones and detail it's a work of art Alf! That Sigma really rocks as does the guy behind the camera! Best regards, my friend, Rob

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback!

I did like the Sigma lens a lot, but I have recently traded it in against the new Nikon 80 - 400. The jury is still out on this one as I haven't tested it properly yet, but  all external reports have been good!

Cheers Rob!
