Misty morning well depicted and of course that flight of birds courting the timid sun makes for a very fine image.Bravo!

Meilleures salutations-Laurent

Grazie. Ciao, Maurizio.

Too many ideas for one poster photo.
No, please go and admire Giangiorgio's tribute to the beautiful people of Sardinia, instead.

I am tempted to agree with Anders about too many ideas. Is this shot a composite? The real point of interest to me are the spoonbills and yet they are right at the top, diverting your eyes until they run off the top of the image, leaving the bottom two thirds unobserved. On the other hand, if you choose to look at the tree, the birds are too high up. I think the image would be stronger if there was a single point of interest. Perhaps cropping off the bottom third would improve the image? Having said this, the intent is good, and the exposure and mood is excellent.

I like the composition and the overall mood. It would be a photographer's dream to capture a landscape like this with the birds. However this seems to be a composite. I think, the bottom landscape along with the tree came from a different source than the sun and the birds. You can clearly see the boundary around the tree where the frames were joined. Also I am not sure whether the sun disk was part of the original landscape or it was 'created'. At this point, I am not sure how to judge this as a photo, since I don't know what level of post processing went into it. It is probably wise to include technical details about the manipulation, as in this image: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=18137503.

If I am to judge this as an art (regardless of the creation method), I would say that I like the idea and the implementation (although the artist should have been careful about the mismatch in colors near the tree and the sky). It could be a bit of a cliche, since birds flying over or near the sun is a familiar idea heavily exploited in digital art, painting, photography. However the scene has its inspiring quality mainly due to the birds. They are the only living and moving objects in an otherwise foggy (or smoggy) and gloomy outdoor.

If it was a real photo (which I am skeptical about), all taken in one instant (with the sun, the birds and the landscape all in one frame at a given moment), I would rate it at a much higher standard. Manipulated digital art turns cliche when multiple artists implement the same idea over and over for its aesthetic quality, inspiring quality, and above all for the simple reason that the scene is too good to be true. However if such a rare scene is indeed a reality, then it no longer remains cliche, as in a real photo.

If this is a real photo, it is one of a kind moment captured on sensor. If it is a 'created' reality, it is a cliche.

"If this is a real photo, it is one of a kind moment captured on sensor. If it is a 'created' reality, it is a cliche." Can you please explain this, Supriyo?

My initial response is to agree with Anders and Robin. Like Supriyo, I would like a confirmation if this is as-shot, or a composite. I do like the effect of the sun through the fog. The the birds, as an element, are very nice, as is the tree in silhouette. The collection feels too busy to engage all at once.

Hi Michael,
I am of the opinion that, if this is a composite, manipulated art, the idea is not entirely new. Placing the birds next to the sun improves the likability of the image to the general viewers. Ironically, it also is something which makes this image a bit of a cliche, since the idea of placing birds next to sun has been tried repeatedly in many art genre.

However, was it to be a real photo, I wouldn't consider it a cliche. It can technically still be called cliche (because the idea is not novel), but simply the effort of envisioning a scene and composing all the elements of the scene in a real setting and then waiting for the right moment for the birds to fly in (still they may not move into the space you want them to leading to the aspect of luck): all of these would make a photo like this very special.

It seems, some viewers who commented on this image based their judgement on the fact that this is real. If you notice, you will see the phrases 'timing' and 'perfect moment' come up. Others may have appreciated it as the final result regardless of the means to get there.
