This woods (Crosby Farm Park, St. Paul MN) was once part of a farm that grew grapes, among other things.   It became a park in the 1960's and has turned into a beautiful woods that borders the Mississippi across from the Fort Snelling park.  However, the grape vines are all over the trees and shrubs in many areas.  Here are the vines as they die in the fall.  You can see how they cover the trees and shrubs.  This time of year presents unique colors and textures for the eye as one hike and bikes the many trails through the park.

I like the gentleness with which you handle your scenes of nature. They always seem understated rather than obvious and are often full of rich and beautifully focused detail. If they were paintings they would be closer in spirit to watercolors than to oils.

Thanks for your kind words, Jack.  Indeed, if I were a painter, I would be painting these scenes.  The textures are so different from season to season. One could spend hours walking around the woods just capturing these interesting scenarios. I speed by on my bike with the dog and grab what I can from day to day.
