Dominque, this was shot in late afternoon sun in the winter so the light levels in the image are actually very close to reality.

David, this is actually a brown heron, although we do have blue heron as well but their coloration is a bluish gray instead of brown as you see here.

Well Scott - you might have a heron that is new to science here:).

I thought I knew my birds - but checked several sources, (Cornell, Wikipedia, Audubon) - and there is no mention of "brown heron".  Great Blues have rusty coloration on neck, flank, and upper legs.

Can you enlighten my further?
