The trees on this beach have withstood several periods of high water

on the Mississippi, which is pretty often lately. For miles and miles

all the trees have these exposed roots. A lot of trees eventually tip

over and get washed down river.

It's always amazing to see the twisted network of roots as the soil is eroded over time and one can see how tenuous the purchase of these old soldiers on the ground which supports them.
