Guest Guest Posted September 30, 2015 Hi Pierre, I like mostly the observer in front of the camera ,with one shoulder a bit higher and the coat emerging the shoulder ,he is out of the image although he seemed to be part of it; I also like how you succed to make a tonality in the same nuance for the sky and for the action on the earth; the man of peace from the other painting is now a coach-the appropiate notion it will be the modern "coaching" which fits to the man in black mostly; and by the way , your collection of favourites photos helps me to make an ideea about the modern photo-thank you for that ! your composition is designed a lot ! keep going ! michaellinder 16,611 Posted October 4, 2015 You may not believe this, but I had composed a detailed set of comments on this image. Then I failed to follow the same steps I've followed during 7 years on PN. This explains why the comments didn't get posted. I'll try to reconstruct them when time allows. My best, michael Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 264 Posted October 5, 2015 I can hardly wait, Michael! Although I don't understand how that may happen! PDE Link to comment
michaellinder 16,611 Posted October 5, 2015 Actually, I think I thought I had clicked on "confirm" and then closed the image. Probably I didn't click on "confirm" after all. Oh well . . . Here's my reconstructed comments. Overall, this image is a commentary on the world of consumerism and big business. The man with the hat and presumably dressed in a suit and tie in all likelihood is a paradigmatic metaphor for a businessperson. He is overseeing his empire to protect his assets and investments, making sure that everything is going according to standard operating procedures. No doubt he is happy over what he sees. The coach, joggers, and elephant all are traversing this environment in lockstep; each one is leading with the right leg (in the case of the elephant, the right front leg). So the businessperson's world is neat, orderly, and tidy. Best always, michael Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 264 Posted October 6, 2015 You are reading my mind, Michael! Excellent interpretation! Thank you Cheers PDE Link to comment
yannis_georgikopoulos 0 Posted October 15, 2015 Dear Pierre! Great concept once more!Nevertheless, I have to say that I don't share Michael's point of view even though it's a well constructed one.My approach would be based more on the relation between movement (debordering-circulation) and identitarian or cultural closure (rebordering), than on class theory. The man is looking at the strange team in front of him moving, changing, adapting itself to the new facts (even though elephants do return home to die), while he is standing still. I think he is confused : should I follow them or return to the safety of a "costume" not made for the desert? Closure, opening to the world and a spice of existentialism, that is for me the meaning of this beautiful work of yours my friend.Best Regards Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 264 Posted October 15, 2015 Very serious interpretation, Janaki! I only may remark that the observer is completely out of the "game", he doesn't look like someone who hesitates whether to follow them or get back to his world, he's more looking like a payed observer whose job is only to observe and consequently report! However, I'm very happy to see your comment on my page after so long time! Yassou Petraki Link to comment
