frigo 4,155 Posted August 22, 2015 Luckily,we were back at home base when the rains came as only moments before we were crossing the Amazon River in a small boat;it rained ''buckets''.Thank you for your comment-Laurent Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted August 22, 2015 This is just drenched with atmosphere, pun intended. Great shot Laurent. I think the border at the top of the image is what makes this image work.Holger Link to comment
joaodebarros 1 Posted August 22, 2015 This "shower" is something Laurent! I worked at the Bijagós archipelago (Guiné-Bissau - western coast of Africa-about 11 degrees latitude North) for more than one year and similar rain happened there in the rainy season and could last 24 hours or more with 35 degrees Celsius and lots of humidity...! In these periods the radar image was only a full white cloud because of the big rain drops, impossible to see something else (it was in 1978, old technology...). Thanks for these memories Laurent! Best regards my friend! Link to comment

frigo 4,155 Posted August 26, 2015 Thank you kindly. The fringe sort of conveyed that I was in the dry for the shot and I am glad it works for you.Meilleures salutations-Laurent Link to comment
frigo 4,155 Posted August 27, 2015 Thank you kindly.Glad this brings back memories for you;at about the same time back in 1979,I was working at the construction of a hydo-powerplant in the heatland of Madagascar and sustaining the same type of hot, humid weather and impressive downpours of the rainy season. We had a saying that in that area, there were two seasons:the rainy season when it would rain non-stop for days, sometimes weeks at a time....and the other season when it rained predictebly almost every day for a short shower in early afternoon...and now looking back at this, those three years in the bush do flash back as fond memories.Meilleures salutations-Laurent Link to comment
jim_j2 9 Posted August 29, 2015 Laurent, I've only witnessed rainfall like this while I was in the Navy and stationed on Guam in the Mariana's in the late 70's. My most vivid memory was the day my recently purchased (just before I left the U.S.) 1978 Fiat 124 Sport Spider Convertable arrived on the island. My Wife and I were still on Temporary Lodging and I had picked the car up, washed it, put the top down and had parked it just outside our Hotel room so that she and I could take a "convertible" ride. When I parked, there was not a cloud in the sky. However, just as I had finished changing out of my Uniform and walked out of the bedroom I immediately noticed the rain through the patio door.Long story short, . . . although we're talking probably less than 5 minutes from the time I parked, by the time I got out to the car and got the top up on my almost new convertable had about 2 inches of rain standing in the floorboards. Well, . . . we didn't get to take a ride that day as the remainder of daylight hours were spent finding a way to drain out the rain and dry the carpet and mats. When it rains in the Tropics, . . . it rains and, you have captured it so well! Regards always,Jim j. Link to comment
frigo 4,155 Posted September 3, 2015 Thank you for the appreciation and for sharing your marking experience with such a tropical downpour. This kicked my memory about a somewhat similar experience back in 1967: on my way back from work on a Friday , I picked up my new Dodge Coronet 500/convertible and on Sunday morning, drove to church top down and parked it right in front where everybody would see it.As we walked out after mass, everybody also saw my wife and I scrambling to get the top up as it was pouring rain, not tropical but still very wet....and we drove off sitting on soaked seats.Meilleures salutations-Laurent Link to comment
