Nine hours of walking (in three days after 10 hours of daily lessons) in the endless

narrow alleys of the old city and harbour of Chania carrying a heavy tripod with 30C

(86F) and 65% relative humidity. Nore the age, or the extra Kilos were enough to make

me feel tired. All i wanted was to get as much of the mood and the atmosphere into my

images. Most of them (as usual) deleted at first sight, some decent ones, and very

few worth sharing. I hope that at least some of you will get a tiny bit of the feeling of

these nights.

Take care.

Most photographs worth having are the result of great efforts, and this is no exception.  The shadows and street lighting are perfect and the position of the characters weave a story that just oozes intrigue and atmosphere!

Worth all the pain!  very well done!

The charm of this ancient land is evident here.  Excellent night shot and the rest of the series is equally good.  Thanks for sharing... Mike

These alleys are full of both old world charm and a sense of mystery and adventure. I like the man walking away in the distance but the woman is not quite as successful as a character in the picture; she's a little too static.

Thank you all for your comments, i am glad that something from this atmosphere has been depicted in these photos.

Jack the woman is actually lifting her dress (reaching/fixing  her underwear).
In my version of the story maybe a "fair trade" has just "consummated" here? And of course she will be staying static in her corner for the hours to come...

Such a different mood in black and white, yet it seemed to depict more of the mood of the exchange that took place. I thought she was 'straightening' something.  I get a bit of the same feeling as when we are driving home in the evening, lights are on in the houses, some of the curtains are tidy, some are askew, some of the lighting is garish - some is warm.  As I look at the windows I wonder if those inside are happy or sad, safe or in danger, if the children are asleep with no worries. When I was about 13, I babysat for a woman who was going out with friends. First time sitting for her. The friends left a newborn baby with me. (I was a bit uneasy). Her children had not had supper and there was no food in the house. When they took me into their room, laundry was strewn all over their bare mattresses. I could not even find sheets to cover the mattresses on the floor. There was a German Sheppard that went out the living room window to 'do his business' on the porch roof--later it was the stairs.  I was never so happy to have this woman and friends come home and get out of there. I was so thankful for my loving parents who had little money but loved me dearly. It is an empty feeling I get in the pit of my stomach when I think of this family, the same is true when I look up at the lights shining in the windows of homes as we drive by, and it is the same feeling I get looking at this image.  I wonder what her life is like and if she does this 'work' because she has not choice? Yes - LOTS OF MOOD - translated here Michail, Bravo!!
