A wonderful arrangement of the silhouetted birds, it would make a really goo dprint!

Because this photo is relatively minimalist and, for me, very visual-oriented, the technical aspects of it are really important and stand out, as much if not more than the content. In part, the content becomes the look and the look becomes the content. So, while the composition seems to work just fine and it has a meditative quality to it which is certainly appealing, the blotchy color work seems to be working against it. Also, the way the orange seems to bleed over the silhouetting seems odd to me. Before I get to the simplicity and sense of quiet, the blotchiness throughout really grabs me way too much.

I like the silhouettes of the flamingos very much, but I find the orange background is rather distracting. I assume this is meant to indicate sunset or sunrise? If it were my shot I would crop it much tighter around the birds and reduce the orange saturation or even make it a straight black and white silhouette: then I think it would have much greater impact. I can see there is an advantage to showing the vegetation at the bottom, but the color is a little too much for me.

I agree as well that the orange is a bit overwhelming. The sun must have been off to the immediate right, that is what may have caused the bleeding into the silhouette, also you can see a different color in the sky off to the right as well. As far as the vegetation goes, for me anyway, it is distraction, that little piece does not do much for me, eliminate it or provide more of it

Agree with Fred and Robin; the orange is too much to my taste, and the way the orange 'overpowers' the bushes at the bottom of the frame looks unnatural to me, and takes away from the tranquility of the image. I think the vegetation is useful to give the frame some context and 'keep it down to earth', but the way it's been done now doesn't achieve that. Remove the vegetation alltogether would be an option, but also a distinctly different and far more abstract photo as a result.

The graphic quality is its force. We see the birds in absolute two dimensional disposition, possessing no depth or texture. This seems to emphasize the lightness of their flight with their elegant trailing legs streaming behind and acting as counterpoints to the long and almost unsubstantial necks. This elegance and lightness is felt even more I think by blotting out the vegetation. The vegetation speaks to gravitational pull and this is lessened by removing it from the frame. The result is not really abstract as the essential form of the flamingos is immediately recognized. Perhaps the sky is the main abstract element and it seems to be used or accentuated here for an emotional effect. The compositional choice of capturing an odd number of birds is to good effect.
