oklahoma Dislocated River

This has a documentary - plus - old postcard feel with the bright sky paired with vignetting.  I could imagine turning it around to discover a kitschy caption such as "Greetings from the sandy banks of [insert local river here]." 

except that there was no river here two weeks earlier. as you must be aware, there was a tremendous amount of rain in the southwest this year. at about the time that the first bunch of storms was tailing off, this river shifted approximately 400 yards, taking several houses and threatening Triple X Road (aka XXX Road), in Choctaw, Oklahoma. There are some other pictures, one of which shows the well pipe for the departed house sticking thirty feet or so out of the river.

Funny, I was going to make up an Indian-sounding name for the river, but didn't because I thought this must be England and my inventiveness would fall flat.  As you know, I spent five years in Oklahoma, so that's where my mind went when I saw this pic even knowing nothing about the location.

half of it, at least. It's the North Canadian, also known as the Oklahoma River for some reason.

Fine documentary image of a sad situation Jamie. I heard about the rains but images always bring it home. I looked at the one you referred to with the pipe sticking out of the water, more sadness. I can only imagine what those people went through.

What they were going through was removing their possessions until seconds before their house fell into the angry river. Crazy Oklahomans!

The Canadian has a special character from the moment it comes down through the mountains of eastern New Mexico.  It is at its best in Texas (for a small piece) and then throughout its mature length in Oklahoma, in my opinion.  It is one of my favorite rivers.  I'm not sure why.  It just has a certain special something.  Good one, Jamie.
