Thanks for viewing/comments! Seems that this year they will stay here a breed

(something happens in the sea of cortez) ... last time they stay and breed in larger

number was at least 7 years ago (when I started shooting bird).

A great series of shots.  I like this one because it combines the act of skimming and it has the reflection.  Good stuff... Mike

Thanks Bill!

Thanks Mr. Mancil! I got these a bit late (between 8-9AM) and the light got a bit harsh would have been better around 7-8AM on a nice sunny day but we've just got some rain (finally) and the sunlight does not get through the clouds well in early morning. Nevertheless, only in the morning that I can get smooth water for reflection (most of the time).

great timing! Do you know, are they skimming for fish? or insects? or both? Seems like a pretty random way of hunting, unless the prey is so abundant .

Thanks Greg & Verena! They are skimming for fish at low tide and slack time and they got fish from little smelt to mackeral size fish (I do have 'very poor' quality shots of them with catch) ... I am still trying to get a good shot with catch ...  :-)

Attached is a ... not so good shot with catch!

Interesting to watch these birds feed.  I like the crop on this image best.  I have water here in the PNW but no Skimmers.  The ripples in the reflection contrast nicely with the feathers.

Thanks for showing us the result of skimming. We don't think it is such poor quality, but you always set the bar of quality high.

Thanks David!

Greg & Verena! Hope I get a good shot of Skimmer & catch soon.  :-) . On that last one,  I think the backlighted fish is beautiful and sharp, the bird was under exposed and that's what make the image seems grainy when I try to adjust shadows/highlights. This bird fly pretty fast and no time to make adjustment :-)
