Taken two weeks ago in Utah's La Sal Mountains. At around 9000 ft it

was still pretty cold and none of the trees had leafed out quite yet.

The overcast sky with some dark snow clouds cast a nice mellow light

on these aspen, which I prefer quite a bit over the ever-present

golden hour.

Thank you for looking and any comments you might have.

A fine image. I know what you mean about the light and atmosphere here in opposition to the ubiquitous golden hour. Years ago, when I spent a year in Edinburgh, I remember foggy days in winter in the botanical garden, and one particular silver birch, a little separate, would stand out like a ghost, mysterious, ethereal, commanding. (I have no images of that.)

With your image here, do you have any closer takes, maybe with more idea of the details on the trunks, etc?

Best regards.

Thank you Abigail and Jon.
I went to Warner Lake as part of an environmental science field trip, and we had lunch among the aspen before heading up into the Alpine zone. Therefore I did not spend all that much time there, and much of which was spent talking botany and getting lunch stuff out of the coolers. But between my sandwich and the students racing up the trail I got a few images. I will post them later.

Sorry I missed this one earlier, it's superb.  I sure wish Aspen's would grow here in the sunny South... Mike
