tm_j 30 Posted June 8, 2015 Thanks for viewing/comments! The last pair I've been shooting only has 1 chicks but they had move one after a week or so of fledging. This image is from a differeent pair that got 4 fledging chicks .. lots more action. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted June 8, 2015 Other than having to eat raw birds, this would be a fabulous life! The capture is stunning! ...Mike Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted June 8, 2015 Thanks Jim! Actually this type of shot is somewhat easier than the aerial food transfer shot because they tend to chase each other before playing mock up fight and that give a decent amount of time for tracking/focusing. Not to say it's real easy to get either since they are fast, agile, erratic and getting an interesting pose still takes lots of luck. Thanks Mr Mancil! ... I eat sashimi (raw fish now and then) but ... never try raw bird (don't want to know either, LOL). Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted June 9, 2015 Thanks Greg and Verena! .. Just like young children, they play and get fed ... not a care in the world .. life is a beach and they are at one of a very nice beach in SoCal, LOL! It's a bit of an interesting thing for me to shoot this since in February 2014 I went to Boston to shoot the Snowy Owl and met a birder who told me he just came back from Torrey Pines State Reserve in Southern Californa and saw a Peregrine chase a Pelican off the cliff (where the Peregrine' s nest is at). So, I came home started looking since .. and voila about a year later .. here I am shooting these birds. - The moral of the story is .. that you have to go far away to find birds that you can shoot in your neigborhood, LOL! tm_j 30 Posted June 12, 2015 Thanks Henry! Good to hear from you, actually, this mock fighting type of shot is easier than the aerial food transfer shot since they chase each other and that 'kind' of give us time to pan/track them till they do this. Aerial food transfer is easy when they fly along and the other one chase after but in many cases it just happen out of no where (since they got better eyes than us and see the 'food truck' coming) within 1 second or so. Just some tidbit! Link to comment
