You are right on all counts. The start of the season is dictated by the Government/Ministry of Fisheries based on the ice conditions on the high seas and a quota is determined based on the studies of the stock to preserve the resource;quotas are per individual boat as a controlled/limited number of licences are issued and the time at sea is determined by how quickly the boats find the crab.A lucky boats can fill itsr quota in as short as six weeks after which the boat may be taken out of the water to spend the rest of the year on the slip unless it is rigged up for another type of fishing such as shrimp provided the boat has a licence.A tight control on the reglementation ensures the perenity of the stock for generations to enjoy.Thank you for viewing and for the interest.
