Zabriskie Pt. sunrise

Used a RAW processing trick in ACR that starts with -100 black +100

shadows. Makes for a very dramatic high contrast version that worked

well for the subdued early morning light.

Amazing colours, contours and textures. A most compelling image of this almost alien looking environment.  I kind of wish there was something within the scene that would indicate a scale, but at the same time I'm thankful its not spoiled by any man made artefacts.

Thanks Alf, this was a special morning - Zabriskie point was closed, so I had to hike up before work crews arrived and I ended up having the place to myself. My wife had dropped me off before sunrise, then drove around to hike up Golden Canyon and meet me as I came down. These badlands are not that big - only a few hundred feet of relief between the bottom you see and the ridge crest.

Large view shows how interesting unusual this landscape is.This shapes maybe result from ancient glacier period give a feeling of something from other planet.Very good.

When I initially saw the thumbnail on your homepage, I was sure that I was looking at a glacial moraine.  Seeing the image in full size - indeed, in larger mode - I realized that I was quite mistaken and also quite fortunate to behold such an impressive landscape.  Your composition is spot on, allowing the viewer a full take on the earth's folds.  But the color palette  and tonal contrasts are what really drew my eye.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. If you've never been to Death Valley put it on the list and make sure to hit this spot, which is a very short drive on a paved road to an overlook. I hiked a ways up the ridge to the side for this view.
