Hi Len, A pleasant scene and hopefully a distant memory, at least the snow anyway. It is nice to see a tree with leaves on it. Nice light. Take care.

Perfectly exposed snow, great use of back light, and you still managed to have sky not overexposed. A keeper!

Yah, won't be sad to see the end of this winter.  This was from my first outing after making like a hibernating groundhog since the end of autumn.  I don't embrace winter like some brave souls do.  The back lit beech tree caught my eye & I thought it worth a frame or two.  I guess the old leaves drop off as new growth begins.  Best, Len.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?  I'm always amazed at how the metering systems of the newer DSLR's handle exposure.  No special tricks here; just matrix metering and point & shoot.  As for the sky, well, luck is good!  :-)  Heavy crop from original vertical composition which even included the sun.  I rarely had this level of quality when using film.  Thanks for your visit.  Best, Len.

As always, your visits are most welcome.  Yep, it's all about the light.  Without the back lighting it's just another tree among trees. Natural beauty is all around us.  I like to record it with a minimum of tricks.  (well, OK, perhaps just a little saturation enhancement in Photoshop).  Best, Len.

It's the back lighting.  A similar scene @ 180 deg. was very flat.  Lost your email address.  Send me a note so I can get it back.  Best, Len.

I'll take the credit\heat for the composition.  The rest is thanks to Nikon & Mother Nature.  Oh, yah, a tad goes to Photoshop Elements 6.  :-)  Thanks for your input.  Best, Len.

Perfect and it looks 'natural' on my monitor,  Today we had plus 6 C and the snow is melting leaving many brown patches.

Yes!  Hopefully, soon, last winter will just be a bad memory.  :-)  I recently got a 24" monitor & suddenly most of my shots look better to me, especially the ones taken on my D5100.  Good to hear from you again.  Best, Len.

Yes, the Beech Tree really steals the show here, the warm colours look really good against the snow. I like the shadows in the foreground too, with lots of shapes and textures in the snow itself.  Unlike yourself, I love the winter and for the reason that scenes like this one become available.  Of course our winters are no where near as severe as yours, I sometimes pray for snow : - )

Nice work Len!

Best Regards

Next time you are in need of some snow send me an email.  I'll have a truck load Fedexed to you.  :-)  I don't really hate the winter, it's just the da*ned cold & wind that gets to me lately. (geeze, that's starting to sound OLD)  Thanks for your always welcome visits and your thoughts.  Best, Len.

I've honestly been in search all winter of a similar scene.....great light on a tree of brown leaves contrasting with snow. I just never found the right cluster.  This is a beauty!  The lighting on the brown leaves just sparkles.  And you know, we feel the same way about the cold.  Once upon a time I wondered why people left their homes and went south for the winter.  Now I understand!  :-)

It was one of those rare early spring days when the cold didn't sink right to your bones and the back lighting was too good to refuse.  I think you would have to have gone really far south this past winter to have fully escaped it's reach.  The 'Keys' come to mind. :-) Thanks for your most welcome visit & comment.  Best, Len.
