Volcanic black sand is prevalent on the Atlantic (Windward) side and the leeward-side except for the southern portion of the island where you have 'coral sand'. Behind me and a bit further back is the development of an international airport capable of handling large jets. There is a distinct possibility that the  beach will be destroyed in the process.

Black sand indeed makes the difference here Tony. Perfect contrast with the wave's foam, deep colors and a sense of calm and relaxation.

Keep on shooting.

There appears to be a slight tilt to the right.  I sure hope you don't lose the left edge of the foam if corrected.

Tony,  Nice capture.  I hope the beach is not destroyed.  I like the contrast between the black sand and the water that is enhanced by the curved shape.  The rock in the water looks like a horse.  Nicely exposed too.  We saw lots of black sand beaches , also lava, in New Zealand.   Larry

Ioannis, Michail, Jeff, Mike, Drew, Larry - Thanks.

Ioannis and Michail - I also like the black sand for photography but tourists don't like it. A resort opened up a couple of years ago on the leeward side of the island and they imported white sand to cover the black sand.

Jeff - I will try and see if I can straighten but I suspect I am going to lose something on the left. Perhaps when I gain more advanced photoshop skills I might be able to have my cake and eat it also.

Mike - I too would like to live in one of those houses - maybe during the winter months (only -15 C tonight)

Drew - thanks for stopping by

Larry - New Zealand is a place that interests me but there is no foreseeable plan to be there.
