I've entered this image under Digital Alterations because I chose to

try to process it with more definition. The original was quite 'soft'. I

used my 18-55 IS Canon Lens when this was taken in 2009. I was

still very new to taking images and think if I had used my 55-250mm

IS Canon, the image would hopefully been stronger. My goal was to

obtain more definition without making it look like a 'harsh' HDR

image. Not sure if I accomplished my goal as I hardly ever do this

kind of work. (any visits and advice are always welcome, many

thanks, Gail :)

Gail,

I like this.  Good colors, vertical masts, and beautiful reflections.  This immediately caught my eye.  Good work.

Thank you Bill. I was a bit worried as there are so many masts in the image. I have a few better lenses now, so I am hoping to get out this summer and do more 'landscape' type work. I felt because of the way I processed this one though, it should go into Digital Alterations.

Cheers for now, :) Gail

Just what you need, Gail, a nicely balanced composition using natural symmetry. No need slaving away in PS when nature does the work for you.

Nice photo Gail. And quite sharp. Alas, the weather is still too blustery and cold to think about sailboats! Aw...I'm lying. I think about sailboats all the time!! Thanks for posting this shot!!

I wonder if you processed this from the RAW file, if so sometimes they can appear soft before adjustments to contrast.  But this looks very sharp and the colours appear natural too. Lovely reflections and mood!

Very well done Gail!

alas....I took this shot back in 2009 and was not taking pics in RAW at the time (I did learn better later!!).  It is surprising that once you start using EF lenses, you sure notice the difference, especially in 'landscape' type of shots.  The 18-55mm lens was often really good on close up images, if I was any distance away from what I wanted to take a pic of, I did not always get such a sharp pic.  I also would have had the IS on. Sometimes I used to not be as careful to stand real still (know better now as well).  So I did have to fiddle around and experiment with sharpening and figure out where to 'step back' so it was not over sharp.  Many thanks for your input Alf, always appreciate your help.

Well this one goes back to summer of 2009. Other pics from that day are in my wooden boat folder.  I can't imagine you NOT thinking about SAILING!!

Many thanks David for your kind words of critique.  It's a bit busy with all the masts.....was not sure if it would be pleasing to the eye!
