This is on an Island and you are right that we do not get flooded by the spring runoff....only by extreme high tides(in the fall) for those of us close to shore,but there is danger for ''water in the baement'' if this melts faster than the soil can absord.This shot here is on a road crossing a peat moss marsh and it will be mushy come spring.

We had a good warm day(+5C)today with high winds and this snow has shrunk  a few centimeters,but tonight,it is back down to -10C and getting colder.We are soon getting into the Maple Syrup period which needs warm days/cold nights for the maple trees to surrender their sap....then, we know winter is pretty much over.
