Christal...

I love this shot and it may be one of my favorites of your recent work.  You chose a perfect POV, it is well composed, and has good tones / colors.  This is worthy of being printed and framed. Bravo.!

The gravestones are good composition lines to draw my eyes to the church building. Good detail in the dark toned areas like the tree trunk and pair of windows to the right is preserved together with delicate texture and dim shadows on the snow. Nice shot.

I like your vantage point with the regimented headstones leading to the stately old church.  Uh, is that Sargent Schultz's headstone?... Mike

The calm composition reveals its strengths to the patient viewer: I also like how the headstones seem to be marching towards the church. The wintery atmosphere suits very well. I can imagine this works as well in black & white.

Bill, Phil, Mark, Mike and Wolfgang,

Thanks so much for your detailed descriptions of why you like this image.  Greatly appreciated.  This is Crown Hill Cemetery in the center of Indianapolis.  It's huge, and many famous people are buried here.  There is also a veteran's section with an eternal flame, and that's where my father is buried.  I really want to take a docent tour of this huge cemetery sometime soon (after the below zero temps subside) and learn a bit more about the famous people buried here.

When I clicked on this photo, the words, "This is wonderful" simply escaped from my mouth. Gorgeous detail, fantastic leading lines, and the muted colors are exquisite. I'm going to sound like a broken records, but hold a piece of white paper across the bottom of the photo just enough to hide the arc of the two tombstones peeping in at the bottom right of the photo. I think that cropping them out actually strengthens the effect of the leading lines. Where is this beautiful church?

First of all, sincere thanks for taking the time to give me a detailed comment.  I greatly appreciate it!  Yes, I struggled with where to crop it on the bottom.  It seemed no matter where I cropped, it left short stubby headstones at the bottom.  But I agree with you that it would be a stronger image without the 2 small arched headstones at the bottom. So I removed the 2 headstones and then cropped just a smidge.  I think it's an improvement.   As for the church, it's called the Gothic Chapel....on the grounds of Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.....built in 1875, restored in 2006.  It's now used for funerals, concerts, weddings and events.

Dynamic and pleasing image Christal. I am always enthralled with very old Headstones. It's really quite beautiful that they have aged and their colours are so much like the Church. I would find this challenging to crop Christal (re Headstones. I can't add much more than already has been expressed. I am truly enjoying your work and appreciating your progress!

I actually removed the 2 small arches in front, but I just didn't load the image.  I prefer it that way.  I'm going to this location tomorrow to shoot because we just had a heavy snowfall.  It's such a beautiful place in winter time.  Thanks, Gail!
