I took a wedding photography class, and they told us about a custom called 'Trash

the Dress' after the wedding. They literally trash the dress by jumping in a lake.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I just don't get it! Anyway, this is proof. I'm

submitting one other Trash the Dress picture, and I'd like to know which one you

prefer. Thanks!

A strange social phenomena founded on the premise that the dress will never be used again.  At least it saves room in the closet :-).  Good shot... Mike

I'm a fan of trash the dress sessions... normally they do it just before paying all that money for cleaning, packaging and storing... the dress isn't really "trashed/ruined".

We did a session underwater in a swimming pool and the bride was so happy to see the wine stains come out in the pool, making her dress cleaner than when she went in... :)  then of course, off to the cleaners for proper finishing and storage.

Maybe 10% of our wedding clients do this...

Anyway.. what I wanted to share with you, is vantage point... though I like the couple and their reflection, you get a much more intimate view/vantage point, IF you get yourself down in the water and on their level.  I suggest getting close and opening up your aperture so you can soften out the background, further emphasising their intimate connection.

It's lots of fun, I know it's not for everyone and update your equipment insurance before getting in rivers and lakes...

If you don't want to get your clothes wet, consider investing in chest waders... :)

Sorry, I'm just now seeing your comment.  Actually, almost everyone else in my class also went in the lake to shoot the couple.  But there were 2 reasons I didn't.  It was really muddy and everyone was slipping.  I wasn't willing to risk it with my equipment.  Also, there was a sign posted saying there was a parasite in the water and to be sure to bathe well after leaving the water.  No thank you!  :-)  But of course you're right.....in the ideal circumstance.  Thanks for your wonderful suggestion.
