This is a familiar sight to me as we currently (mid-winter)  have many of these dried blooms on bushes near our front door.  I pass by them every day while on my way out to find something to photograph.  :-)  Thanks for the inspiration.  Your choice of background draws the eye & keeps it.  Not sure what your light source was but, coming from above, it does a fine job of revealing the textures within.  At first glance I thought a square crop might be more appropriate but the right leaning stem (into the void) helps this crop work.  You've too many fine posts to absorb in one sitting so I'll have to come back from time to time.  Looks like you have much to offer others on PN in the way of mentoring & inspiration.  Best, Len.

Len,

Thanks for the long comment.Glad that you recognize this plant. It's not all that impressive outside right now, so I tried to make it more interesting with the light and close-up- what's usually not seen. Good of you to recognize that.

The light is a flash, off camera, fired at different angles over the 10 sec exposure. I do several different takes and try to chose the one that came out best.

There are a few things I've kinda figured out how to do, and am most glad to share- just need to be asked :)  If you go through my pics, somewhere I gave a long explanation of the process , but I don't remember where- although not too long ago.

There's plenty out there, just has to be found - happy hunting!

Greg

Like a studio shot, especially after reading you explanation of how you lighted this at various angle over a long exposure SS. TFS!
