A small boat house overlooks the frozen Malham Tarn on a very cold day in January. I

changed the white balance very slightly to warmer tones in the sky to illustrate the

weak winter sun.

Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated. Thank You.

The scene is full of interesting details, with the little house as the main focus point for me! The weak sun light contributes to the mood of the mystery of our planet. Warm regards my friend.

You've done an excellent job of presenting not only the tangible cold but also the faint warmth emanating through the overcast sky.  No dogs, ducks, geese, or Vikings in evidence; but I do find the circular ice formations fascinating.  Aliens (like crop circles) perhaps? ;-)... Mike

I am still smiling with Mike's witty comment....-:).

Composition, dramatic, mood, light, they are all there. Technical excellence to boot!.

Very well done again, my friend!

Alf,  The coldness of the image is nicely balanced by the warmth of the sky and its reflection on the water.  This image reminds me of Newfoundland, Canada.  Newfoundlanders would call this a tickle, referring to the opening to the bay.  The image looks as if it is a duotone or B&W with graduating amounts of sepia.  Nicely done, brrrrrrrr - I'm waiting for spring.

Many Thanks!

It is a barren looking landscape and the cold was biting! But it does have it's own particular raw brand of beauty and it's good to know you like it!

Warm Regards Jorge!

Sincere Thanks for your interest and kind words.  I think everything is slumbering beneath the layer of snow and ice!

Well worth a visit, it does have it's own unique brand of wild beauty, but getting here wasn't easy this time, I must have passed 3 cars that had met with accidents due to the icy conditions. Many Thanks!

Not even a lurking alligator to be seen.  To be honest even the tiny birds were scarce, the only creatures I did witness were a few sheep and like photographers they are not known for their common sense  : - )

Aliens from a colder climate than the crop circle bunch!  : -)

Many Thanks for your thoughts and kind words Mike, much appreciated!

Sincere Thanks!

Yes, Mike always manages to bring a much needed lighter note to photography!

The light was very changing by the second and depended very much on the cloud density, I waited for my moment to take this one.

All the very best to you my friend!

Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback, much appreciated!

There wasn't a great deal of colour to work with, so I can understand your impression of it being a B & W with a sepia tint, but it is in fact colour.

The place is called Malham Tarn and "Tarn" is another name for Lake. Canada is on my bucket list of places to visit and I'd love to see a "tickle" in person : - )

Although the winter brings cold conditions and short days, it remains my favourite time of the year for photography, the low light remains longer and sometimes I get a full day of shooting.  Spring it tolerable, Summer has it's moments and Autumn is welcomed with open arms for the onset of autumnal colour harks the beginning of another beloved winter ; - )

Cheers Larry!

Thank you so much for your interest and positive feedback! It was a freezing day when the wind just cut through you, I usually keep warm moving about, but it wasn't working on this day!

I was looking at this one a few days back Alf, and I looked back through your images because it reminded me of your other Boat House - but from a totally different POV. But I did see that the other one is located somewhere else. Beautiful lighting prevailed in this shot. I find the patterns on the ice most intriguing. The predominant brown/grey tones are really quite beautiful.  The atmosphere may seem bleak, but I find it to be lovely!

There are a lot of these old boat houses in the UK and I think they make great photo subjects. They seem to fit in with the landscape and even enhance it to some degree.

This part of the country can be very bleak, but you are quite right, it does have it's own particular brand of beauty.

I have no idea how those circles are created, but I have decided to discount Mikes theory of aliens. No self respecting alien with the power of intergalactic flight would choose a holiday here in the winter : - )

Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and kind words Gail, and I do hope you are feeling better!

Best Wishes
