There is a timelessness to this picture that is fascinating. The obscuring fog, the shack in the background the woman standing beside her car, the muddy road stretching towards us. All these are in correct proportion to one another and the result is a photo that pictures a certain time and space you have visited

yet seems strangely familiar to me as well. It feels like I have seen this scene in its many variations in myriad photo albums through the years. It's that disarmingly ordinary quality, so beautifully captured, that resonates with me.

This day,the fog proved too heavy to continue up the mountain so we

stopped to chat with our lady friend living at the base of the

foothills.Thank you for your comment-Laurent

That is a very kind observation on this,one of my favorite and memory stirring images of my time in Peru.Not far from Lima,this was our favorite day trip up the mountain via this meandering trail,dangerous in the dry season and more dangerous in the wet season as the saturated road surface would make driving hazardous even for a 4x4 vehicle,but worst yet,this fragile trail was inclined to wash out and slide down the deep ravines.The lady in the photo got used to seeing this car go up the hill and we always stopped to chat,leave her some fresh fruit from town and my wife would bring her magazines(her request) that would keep her going till the next trip.
