LOL, grazie mille Giangiorgio!  ... He's always so far away (a 2x extender type of bird for me) but on this occasion, he got a fish and got chase by a seagull which push him close to shore for me to shoot.  

 

Anyway, in California we are into Hamburger and what he got is about the same as a 4 by 4 at In n Out burger there.

Thanks Janine! This fellow is not skittish but he generally fish way out there from me and I would say I need a 2X extender to catch him well . So far, this is as good as I can get.

Excellent capture Tm j. details are very good,considering the fact that the plum is wet and smarmy (slippery?) it is difficult to see more details on the kingfisher after dive...

2x extender will make focus difficult to track fast.I usually reach focus on the splash and then manage to track the bird few meters on flight  with my 300 mm and crop camera....( nikon d7100).

I hope i didn't misleading and helped even a bit.
