Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 1, 2015 This is a definite departure from your usual style but equally as impressive in my opinion. It has the feeling of a recently rediscovered photo from the 60's, a true snapshot, taken without much technical expertise or undue reflection. It's that naïve quality the makes the moment so endearing and the picture so effective Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted February 1, 2015 It's not often when the children visit the Lynde Creek Conservation Area to feed the birds and little critters, that a WOODPECKER lands to 'catch a treat'. The Woodpecker had just landed and Shaelyn was so excited. Actually this is the first time a Woodpecker has ever dared come so close. I borrowed this one from my daughter to edit. Hopefully one day life will be less busy and Shauna will be able to learn how to Edit her images. Because of the movement, a lot of detail was not captured in the Woodpecker, but I am sure Shaelyn will be delighted to be reminded of this wonderful afternoon in the woods. Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted February 1, 2015 Thank you Jack. I was attempting to achieve light haze and matt finish. I don't see the Grandchildren as much as I would like but enjoy so much sharing in their adventures any way I can. It was Shaelyn's expression of 'wonder' when the Woodpecker actually landed. There were a few other shots just seconds before. Two Chickadees had landed but fled when the Woodpecker came in for a landing! Link to comment
Bill J Boyd 64,572 Posted February 1, 2015 Gail,Wow. This is an amazing shot. I do lots of bird photography but have never captured anything like this. Bravo! And, the post-processing is excellent. Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted February 1, 2015 This particular spot where the grandchildren go is full of hungry birds. But the Woodpeckers are so skittish. It has been bitterly cold this Winter, perhaps not as many people have been getting out to leave treats for the birds. Link to comment

M_Lipakis 3 Posted February 1, 2015 The true protagonist here is the surprize at which the girl looks at the little bird.May she always be so amazed with all the wonders that surround us and we hardly pay any attention to them.Keep on shooting Gail!!! Link to comment

dgv 1 Posted February 5, 2015 You have done a good job here considering that the woodpecker details were not as clear as they could have been. Like other people said, your granddaughter's expression is priceless, she is in awe of the event and at the same time in total control. I like the way you have given her face a dreamy look. In years to come she would look at this picture and remember her granny very fondly... Link to comment
