I took this image in the Summer of 2012. The day was very windy

and I recall having trouble getting good focus. It had rained about an

hour before, the ground was uneven, I had trouble standing still and

was not quite in the perfect focal plane for this image. There is a

petal that is not in focus, but nonetheless, it was such a beautiful

flower that I decided to work on the image. I could have adjusted the

colour curves in Photoshop to lighten the darkness of the image

(working in shadows) but decided not to. (any visits and comments

are always appreciated :) Gail)

A Poppy that really POPS! the dark frame and subtle backdrop enhances the vibrancy of the flower and gives it a 3D appearance that is almost tangible!  I am pleased you decided not work on the shadows as they allow a greater depth and texture than would have been otherwise possible.  A wonderful presentation!

Best Regards

thanks so much Alf. The colour of the Poppy just looks so 'delicious' to me. I recall when I was young, my Dad when he had some change to spare, would go to the corner store and buy Orange Crush Pop and Vanilla Ice Cream to make my brother's and I a 'float'. We did not often get treats like that - I suppose it made us appreciate when we did get them so much more!! The petals of the Poppy are usually much lighter even in the shade, but the rain had saturated the petals. They dried out just enough to stand up straight, but the saturation remained. Thanks so much for dropping by.

There are many colours I have trouble with. Usually the Vibrant magentas and reds really are challenging for me. Thank you very much for your kind comments and for taking the time to visit. Kind regards, Gail

Actually I was exploring through my External Hard Drive and had forgotten about this one. I think the delicate texture of these poppies is so remarkable. They survive the winds up on the hill where I live and I have found that once they are out, you can't wait too many days before they succumb. They are just so amazing in their structure!! Thanks so much for your visit!

Dear Gail,

You seem to have a PSD file of the flower only, when you made it "pop out" of the background, literally speaking! And if that PSD file is new I don't have to worry about your shoulder because I know how difficult and industrious work is selecting a flower from the background in order to make a PSD file out of it!

Cheers to that!
