pawel_stradowski 0 Posted October 2, 2003 I love to see most of your shots once in a while. They are all good and very interesting. This one is technically good as always, well exposed and cropped, but is not interesting enough to make look at it in the future. Link to comment
marek_uliasz2 0 Posted October 3, 2003 Great picture! It made me to take a look at Edward Hartwig's book with his pictures of the old Lublin. Of course, very different style. Link to comment
wojtek_rychlik 0 Posted October 3, 2003 Some sad street there. I would crop some of the bottom out and desaturate. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted October 3, 2003 The lighting really makes this an effective image with the warm glow in the sky. Nice composition! Link to comment
kevinbriggs 0 Posted October 3, 2003 Really fine work! One of the most enjoyable photographs posted on this web site in recent memory. Link to comment
behemot3 0 Posted October 3, 2003 Piotr - this is what I envy you - that you can play with light to your advantyage. You can graduate the light so that different arras are sheded but all is stil visible - no dark spots. Of cours this is not a good comment since it is more a comment on my skills than yours. Well about the picture I like thecolours ( is it the efect of filters or a PS effect?) and the way you work with light. What I miss is twhat Robert already mentioned - no men - it is rfreally deserted and I small human figure walkin down the steet would add to the photo. Regards, kuba Link to comment
margaret_wojtunik 0 Posted October 3, 2003 I can't deny that I love this city, I can't deny that I love this picture. Regards:) Link to comment
margaret_s. 0 Posted October 4, 2003 You have other shots that appeal to me more but I do have to say that I very much like the rich gold and tobacco tones in this image. It does look very lonely - and it gives me a bit of a bygone era feel... so where does your road lead?... ;o) Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 4, 2003 Love the smooth tonality transition from light to shadow while still being a high contrast scene (Im a high contrast man myself). The colors, and especially the cropping and subject matter, are all to my taste. I like how you left part of the arch gateway (or bridge, whatever the case) so it ends at the left corner instead of trying to center it; although I would prefer to see just a tad more at the top. Actually, if we take away the dark frame you added, we can see that the crop is too tight (archway section to small and high up). The ideal size (or amountfor lack of a better word) of archway (for me) would be to have included as much of it as we see now if the frame were part of it, but this is still fine. I like to see deserted street sceneseven though a human form always adds interest to this type of scenesometimes we have to get away from people even if in their habitat. I love shadows! I think shadows are as much a part of photography as is light, but most of the time the picture is always about light rather than shadows. Here, you walked into a perfect street scene as far as shadows go (natural due to the suns angle and the height of the buildings) and you also got lucky with the cloudy sky, as all these elements create the smooth gradual transition from shadow to light that we see here. I think the clouds could use a little burning in, but once again, this is still fine. Perfect! 7/7 Link to comment
koval 0 Posted October 4, 2003 Very detail comment . Thank you. I do see your point about the size of the arch..imho it could work too ! Still I personaly feel that it would make it a bit to heavy so ..I may stay the way it is :)) Burning the sky ...well here Iam not too sure ..if I did .what would have happend to the contrast ? ! Would there be enought light on the building to make it work .Even more.. if the arch was as wide as you say and the sky was darker ...would that have enought "live " to keep us looking at this..Thank you anyway . Regards PK . Link to comment
nomade 1 Posted October 6, 2003 A classic composition with with a new approach with that yellow cast. Perfectly frame imo, and better exposed. Link to comment
