Good angle on the vintage bridge. We also have a lot of these up here and red seems to be a favorite color.I read the inscription and wonder if ''at a walk'' means the speed limit or limited to pedestrian traffic? If this were mine,I would be tempted to clone out the shadow in the foreground to enhance this already very good image.

Meilleures salutations-Laurent

Hi Christal,

Beautiful scene with wonderful angle & colors.  I have to agree with Laurent if this was mine I think I would try & clone out the shadow.  Take care, Patsy

My first instinct was also to remove the shadow of the fence, but then I'd have all that empty space in front.  I don't want to crop it any further because I want to keep the same perspective.  But since both of you think it would be best, I can at least try it and see if I'll like it better.  I appreciate your input.  Oh, and Laurent, I actually didn't know the answer to your question, so here is it:

What does "CROSS THIS BRIDGE AT A WALK" mean?

The inscription "CROSS THIS BRIDGE AT A WALK” dates back to about 1.880. A team of horses at a trot will coordinate their pace with one another. It was believed this cadence vibration could do damage to the bridge. So, the driver would have to slow his team to a walk to avoid this. Also, a lot of Civil War troops trained on and around the bridges. Their marching could do similar damage so they had to obey the same law.

The writing remains on some of the bridges for traditional purposes only. It does not mean you have to dismount your vehicle to cross the bridge!

So good to hear from you!  I was away for many months, and I hadn't seen your name in awhile.  You may already know that the 'Bridges of Madison County' movie was actually shot in Indiana.  I love these old bridges, and my goal is to shoot them in each season.

I love these old bridges as well. I have not seen many, but they are always so full of History. I appreciate that you have told so much about the bridge in your replies to those who have commented. I imagine this spot must be so beautiful in the fall. However I find images of trees without the leaves equally as fascinating. Nice shot and POV Christal.
