Well, after just returning from an 'eagle hunt' and failing to get one single decent shot of an eagle, I'm in awe of how sharp this is.  I still need to learn to track motion better.  But first I have to get close enough to even have half a chance.  Haven't found the way to do that yet.  :-)   This is so tack sharp, and I love the background.  BTW, thank you SO much for your long note on mirrorless cameras.  Thanks for your offer to help.  As I work through the various choices, I may contact you again.  :-)

Generally, you get great lighting on sunny day early in the morning and late in the afternoon when the light is low on the horizon (I think this was taken around 3:30PM last Saturday .. sunset around 4:30, I think).  The 500mm is a very sharp lens wide open and this was taken at F4 (I think) which blurred the background and that make the shot seems even sharper . Happy .. bird shooting!  :-)
