Hi Chuck,

There is something quite peculiar about this image. Her face looks like a painting by the rest of her body is photo photo. Can you give some more insight?

I used a layer mask to expose some clearer elements from under a layer with a painterly filter applied.

AHHHH... ok, I thought something like that was done...or you were one helluva painter! :) Problem is that you may have crossed into the "uncanny valley" (for me at least) due to the body vs. face. I think the effect worked beautifully on the face, especially with the way her hair flows. Overall i like the image, her expression, and body language. The portrait works well in telling her "story". I'm conflicted about her right leg...though it makes a nice triangle (leg-arm-guitar neck) and it add's to her seemingly unconventional style, it seems too prominent, disproportionate in size, and due to the shadowing, seems to be disconnected and floating. Other than that, i like the splash of color with her hair, the slight rembrandt lighting on her face and the overall softness of the lighting.

I think Patrick has expressed my own thoughts pretty well. The top portion of the picture is almost painterly (and extraordinary) but the illusion loses its veracity when we get down to the bottom 1/5 of the picture. The distinction is too much to bridge. Still, this is a photo that very well could have been chosen as picture of the week since I know it would have sparked a lively debate and a host of comments.
