Alex_Es 388 Posted December 23, 2014 Titles are important. Calling attention to the cat calls attention to the clutter in this photograph. The clutter is a problem only if the intended subject is the cat. If the cat is only part of the overall picture, then the clutter works to the images advantage. My first impression was that this is an impressionistic photograph. It resembles those Impressionist paintings with loose structures that the Post-Impressionists rebelled against, but which had a certain natural allure that was too often absent the alternatives the Post-Impressiionists created. I like the overall feel of this image: the dark figure, the lush foliage and the cat. The cat is a lively counterpoint to all that lushness and the figure's ambiguity. The cat is solid and kinetic. But the cat is not the subject. The only thing I was change here is the title. Try "Street Impression #1." Link to comment
M_Lipakis 2 Posted December 23, 2014 Thanks for the extended critique Alex, i do appreciate your thoughts and your time.I was actually referring to the curiosity of BOTH cat and Granny but now i see the image ended up a bit darker than what i wanted and the tilting head of the granny and her effort to see inside the house is not obvious and that of course led you thought only to the cat. Thanks again,Michalis Link to comment
thadley 14 Posted December 23, 2014 Nicely composed with lots of eye candy. My only recommendation for the future is to give Grannie a bit more space on the left for practical reasons. If you ever wanted to print and 'matte' it, the matte would cut into a piece of Grannie. This was advice offered to me here at photo.net a number of years ago. I am just passing it on. All the very best and Merry Christmas, Link to comment
M_Lipakis 2 Posted December 23, 2014 Thank you Tony.I wanted the granny with much much more space to her left in order to have a more balanced composition, but alas, in my hurry to get the image fast i got sloppy (as usual).Anyway, thanks for stopping by and for the advice, i appreciate it.
