Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted November 27, 2014 Large view is best. I don't usually convert to sepia tones, but thought this made an interesting image. What is your opinion? I used Nik Software's Efex Pro 2 to do the conversion. There are annoying checker-like marks in the sky and hill. I tried to deal with this using noise control at no avail. Perhaps its in the old look of the conversion sample that I chose. I do need help on this image, so please chime in with critiques. The image was taken hand held from the back of the train. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Larry Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted November 28, 2014 I like everything about apart from that gauze like effect that you already mentioned in the sky. It could be a side effect of one of the film options perhaps? In any case I am not going to be much help here as I'm unsure how you would get rid of it, other than a process of processing another image applying sepia tones in a normal way and using the said image as a layer mask, the erasing the "gauze effect" from the effected parts........a bit long winded, I'm sure there has to be an easier way. The overall sense of nostalgia brought about by the sepia tones is really good though, and it seems like you could have taken the same photo 50 years previously with no discernible difference.Nice work Larry! Pierre Dumas 258 Posted November 28, 2014 I think the filter applied isn't necessary and the sepia leans too much to magenta! Otherwise it is an excellent composition reminding on old times! Best regards PDE Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted November 28, 2014 Alf, Thanks for your input. I agree with what you say, and am not sure it is worth messing with this further. There's nothing special about the image aside from its being a nice rural rail shot. Larry Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted November 28, 2014 Pierre, Now that you mention it, this is a bit on the magenta side. I guess there's a reason that I don't generally go in for such filters. I have a straight B&W image of this too, which may be preferable. Thanks for your thoughts. Larry Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted November 28, 2014 Larry, I really like the scene here. The sky is not really distracting to me, and so I would probably leave it alone. --Lannie Link to comment
trihelm1 2 Posted November 29, 2014 Larry. Its a great image as it is. If the shy really disturbs you ( And it dont think it detracts from the image) you could try "blur" or negative sharpness and clarity (if you are using Lightroom) on the sky, it might take some of the effect away. But its a nice image as it is. Rgds Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted December 1, 2014 Lannie, Thanks for your visit and comment. I appreciate your compliment; yet, this image does not speak to me as others do. Nice to connect with you. Larry Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted December 1, 2014 Frederick, You have a good idea about reducing the clarity or adding some blur. Thanks for weighing in on this image. Larry Link to comment
photo by patsy dunn 1 Posted December 4, 2014 Hi Larry, Wonderful scene with beautiful composition & details. I wonder what it would look like in b/w. Take care, Patsy Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted December 4, 2014 Hi Patsy, Actually, I posted this mostly because I enjoy your railroad images so much. I think the image is OK. This actually is a black and white using sepia. I have another in just B&W. To me both are just OK. It helps me knowing that you and some others like the image. Best to you and yours for the holidays. Larry Link to comment
