This could be symbolic of how we comprehend things, localized neural activity while everything else either disappears or recedes into indistinct noise.

a very interesting thought - I didn't have any interpretation in mind while taking these photos.

Just recently I read Margaret Livingstone's "Vision and Art - The Biology of Seeing" - where she explained how our brain (in this case our visual system) is very good at throwing away information and focusing on local differences (that's why probably our gaze shifts towards the few sharp lines).
