I live on the island of Maui, Hawaii where much of the central valley is planted in Sugar

Cane. Prior to harvesting, the cane is burned to remove the leaf, and the remaining

stalks are brought to the mill to extract the sugar. I woke early a couple days ago and

looked out the window to see this fire and full moon. The cities of Wailuku and Kahului

are at the right. Aloha.

Maui that voted to ban gmo's? Congrats!!

I guess with so many volcanoes spewing fumes into the air, a few cane fields can't do much more harm- however, it is of note that sugar is polluting even in it's harvest.

Beautiful shot, though!

It's a very compelling shot. The moon and the tree alone against that night sky make for great subjects, but then we have the burning fields that adds further interest and maybe a more sinister mood.

Very well done!

Such a beautiful sight Dom. I was not aware of the processes used before taking the cane to the mill. Perfect timing for you. Excellent detail, one really must view larger to truly appreciate.
