Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 20, 2014 I've passed this one several times without comment but keep coming back to it. Something about it constantly snags my attention though I'm at a loss as to what it is. The relatively shallow DOF has something to do with it, I think, the blurred lower corner leading to the relative crispness and brightness of the section of the photo north of the that angled line. wolfgangarnold 142 Posted October 21, 2014 many thanks for your comment & thoughts. Was it Steve Jobs who said that "good artists copy and great artists steal"? -- I tried to "steal" here from John Gossage - in his book "32 inch ruler / maps of babylon" (a bit lengthy but as intelligent as subversive) he is using shallow dof (and light!) pretty effectively.Besides having John Gossage's photos in mind, I also can't exactly explain, what triggered me to take this photo - there was this late afternoon light, the shadows of the handrail that crossed the line between the different surfaces... alfbailey 2 Posted February 5, 2017 The vegetation in the top left corner and the graduated clarity seem to offer something more, something just out of reach. A vague promise, and the faintest hope. Compliments & Best Regards Alf Link to comment
