This reminds me of a court painting of a royal dauphin except it's a little girl, of course. It has a surprisingly refreshing feeling of the (unintentional, I'm sure) formal about it as if she is perfectly assured of her status and persona and projects an aura of self confidence and openness which the painter (photographer in this case) has caught..

Thanks for your comment, Jack.  Her "look" here is pretty much luck and timing.  Toddlers are in constant motion.  Iris is used to me pointing a camera at her, as was her mother as she was growing up.  Iris is very open, self confident, extroverted and makes friends with everybody who crosses her path.  She's also a climber, and literally likes to climb up on things like chairs as is this photo.  Watching her explore the world is like watching someone from another planet who just dropped in on earth and has never seen anything before.  She's amazing.
