Surely you created that mountain in PS? If not what an amazing site, if you did what an amazing job. Either way you have a phenomenal image. Congrats indeed

Thanks Craig. This is an actual scene without any PS tricks! The town is Urgup in Cappadocia but the location where this was taken is not a tourist stop. Our Turkish driver/guide was a photographer and he had seen a snow scene of this view on a calendar; it took him quite some time driving around to figure out the location which turned out to be the local rubbish tip. The volcano is Erciyes Dagi at 12,848 feet and was responsible for smothering the landscape with lava; over the eons floods, rain and wind carved the soft rock into this fantastic landscape.

Thanks for your response!  How cool that you were able to get to that spot and how cool someone put the time in to get there, you have an amazing capture.  PN is good for more than just seeing and learning about photography but I learned something really cool about a location I had no idea existed...I'm sure there are many such areas but this one is so amazing I cannot believe it hasn't received more attention.  Actually, that may be a good thing, great locations have been ruined when they become known due to so many people not respecting the "specialness" of them.  Thanks again for sharing the story and the image.

Craig, Cappadocia is a landscape photographers dream and I have to give credit to Jim Zuckerman for getting us to this great view point. One of the advantages of going on a photography tour with Jim is that you get to the right places at the right time. I remember sunrise from the top of Mt. Nemrut required leaving our hotel at 2:30am - but it was worth it. Here is a shot from a hot air balloon showing Urgup and our view point. Cheers, RickDB
