Very interesting mushroom! The color is really interesting and the play between the red with the green and gray grass is really good. The only issue I see is that the mushroom is definitely out of focus. Get that mushroom in focus and you would have a really, really good shot.

Hi Craig,

thanks again for your thoughtful critique.

However, I beg to disagree about the focus status of the mushroom.

Its outline is focused - unless I need new reading spectacles.

What might make an unfocused impression is the gleaming front side of the mushroom which mirrors its surroundings which are further away, like a real mirror which framework is focused, while the image it is mirroring is not....

The grass at the same vertical plane as the front side of the mushroom is in focus (again, unless I need better reading speccies) - so, the front side of the mushroom must be in focus, although you don't see that for the reason explained above.

How about that?

cheers

Sam

You could be right, maybe it is just an optical illusion.  I hope you didn't take my previous comment as a harsh criticism, it was just my observation.  I'll say again, I really like the interaction of colors, nicely done.  By chance do you know what kind of mushroom this is as it is very photogenic?

Hi Craig,

this is possibly a young stage of the very poisonous Amanita muscaria.

No, I didn't take your critiques as being harsh. It's good to have a conversation about an image. People have all sorts of differing views when looking at the same image, that's normal.

Cheers

Sam
