Falkonera, (Greek: Φαλκονέρα) or Gerakoulia (Γερακούλια) is a small uninhabited Greek island in the southwestern Aegean Sea, between the island of Milos and the Peloponnese. In the early hours of 8 December 1966, the ferry SS Heraklion, en route from Chania to Piraeus, sank off the coast of Falkonera, resulting in 217 lives lost, with 47 survivors found on Falkonera. Known as the "Falkonera Shipwreck", it is considered one of the worst maritime accidents in Greek history. Thank you for your kind attention! Link to comment

victorwei 0 Posted September 26, 2014 Thank you for the intriguing but tragic story behind your photo. This is somewhat a compelling photographic recall of that story as I can almost see the spirits of those 217 lives rising as one cloud.Great work. Link to comment
