Jack- these guys are calm creatures - actually I went to his home - bad manners- but it is a shelter door we are looking at and he being very tiny (4cm corpse) had no choice, got an instant paper cover for the time we were cleaning the place, and had gone out to get some food when I came back. They are skillfull flyers and catch all flying above water (even drink by partly landing on water and then "paddling" the water to their mouth:) from the furcoat:)). The females get one babybat which they milk and feed for the Spring and then there is one animal more to collect the mosquitos away (they eat 2-4g insects/night - mostly mosquitos every night). So, I like them and build even day covers to them by the lake. best Hannu

Nice photo, needs a little more detail around the face possibly, they have huge, gorgeous eyes ..

The present Ebola outbreak has been traced to infection by fruit eating bats, but I love the creatures, I worked with them for ages, even had a pet one called Fifi that used to come to  eat fruit from my hand  (Pteropus giganteus), they are mammals after all, smart animals ...  : -)

John -thank you for constructive critics. This guy was sleeping and was not willing to show his eyes(which are big and beautiful:)), after all I was intruding his home...This time we have to adore just the shape:)

I think that linking any fruitbats to ebola are farfetched -including your Fifi and likes of her- as there are more likely candidates on the list..

There were attempts to link rabies to this bat aswell in the 80s-or 90s...

Whatever, once a population increases above reasonable limits - mother Nature finds ways to limit it - and this will be the case with ebola and all other contagious diseases which equal the history of mankind, and I hope it continues to do so in order to keep the balance . All the best Hannu
